Matthews Auctions started in 2007 with two goals in mind. First was to properly market our consigners items to receive the most money that we could for them. Second was to correctly describe and represent the items that we sold for buyers to make an educated decision when bidding at our auctions.

In 2007, certified appraiser and renowned petroliana expert Daniel K. “Dan” Matthews founded his own company, Matthews Auctions LLC of Nokomis, Illinois, following 15 years spent as a specialist auctioneer. The semiannual Peotone Petroliana & Automobilia Auctions he founded, and continues to produce, are among the most popular and highly regarded events attended by gas and oil memorabilia collectors. Dan Matthews is the author of The Fine Art of Collecting & Displaying Petroliana, Volumes I and II. Both books are in full color and include market values. The latter volume, which was released this year, focuses on tires, batteries and accessories.
